Distinguished Attorney of the Year Award presented to Frank Torres

The Long Island Hispanic Bar Association President Frank Torres was honored as attorney of the year by the Long Hispanic Chamber of Commerce at the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale on November 21, 2015.


Suffolk County Psychological Association Psychologist of the Year award 5/31/13

Suffolk County Bar Association Installation Dinner 6/7/13

On Friday,June 7, 2013, our own Dennis R. Chase will be inducted as the Suffolk County Bar Association's 105th President at the Cold Spring Country Club in Huntington, NY from 6:30-10pm. Nassau County Women’s Bar Association Installation Dinner 6/12/13

On Wednesday,June 12, 2013, our own Linda Mejias will be inducted as the Nassau County Women’s Bar Association's President at the Jericho Terrace, 249 Jericho Turnpike, Mineola, New York from 6:00-10pm. Honorable Jenny Rivera and our own, Honorable Helen Voutsinas, will be speaking at the event. The LIHBA is subsidizing tickets to this event so if you are interested in discounted seats, please contact us.


HNBA’s Annual Spring Networking Event 6/13/13

The HNBA’s annual Joint Sprint Networking Event will take place on Thursday, June 13th, from 6pm-10pm at Yotel, 570 Tenth Avenue, New York, NY. The LIHBA is a co-sponsor of this event. This will be a cocktail party with hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar. The venue has an outdoor terrace. A small admission fee ($20) will be charged to lawyers with free admission for law students.


The DMS Dream Foundation News Conference 6/17/13

A new charitable organization is teaming up with the Long Island Latino Teachers Association (LILTA) to provide scholarships to immigrant students in New York. The two groups will hold a news conference on June 17, 2013 at the Bethpage Federal Credit Union in Central Islip to introduce the DMS Dream Foundation and to announce their first scholarship award. The Dream Foundation was started last summer by our own David M. Sperling, who launched a Dream Cruise in Freeport to raise awareness of the federal government’s new program to legalize undocumented students. The program, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), has received nearly 500,000 applications from young immigrants across the country since Aug. 15, 2012. Another cruise is being scheduled for August 2013.

The National Association of Puerto Rican/Hispanic Social Workers, Inc. (NAPRHSW) has selected Dr. Roy Aranda to receive their Presidential Award at their Annual Gala on June 15, 2012.


February 10, 2012 - LIHBA is going to Cuba!

The LIHBA is going to Cuba! We are proud to announce that we have received a license for a cultural visit to Havana, Cuba to experience their legal community. The trip is scheduled for April 9-13, 2012. It may not be too late to join us!

On June 10th, the Coalition honrored LIHBA Vice-President, David Mejias, for his participation in the Legal Resource Network's pro bono project representing victims of domestic violence in their civil legal matters.


June 01, 2011 - New Board

On June 1, 2011 the new Board of the LIHBA was installed. Ray Negron will serve as President, David Mejias as Vice-President, Frank Valverde as Treasurer, Dr. Roy Aranda as Secretary, Linda Mejias as Nassau County Chapter President and Victoria Campos as Suffolk County Chapter President. Congratulations to the new Board.


March 17, 2011 - Noticia

On February 2, 2011, Noticia ran a feature on the Long Island Hispanic Bar Association in its Viva LI publication. This feature was part of a seven week project by Noticia to highlight the role of the legal profession in the Hispanic Community. For each week over the seven week period, Noticia highlighted a different area of law with articles and advertorials from LIHBA members. The project culminated on March 19, 2011 in a Know Your Rights Forum at the Holiday Inn in Carle Place. Speakers were members of the LIHBA discussing the areas of law highlighted over the course of the project.
