Oscar Michelen is partner in the law firm of Cuomo LLC, a litigation boutique with offices in Manhattan and Mineola. He practices primarily in the fields of commercial litigation; employment law; and intellectual property. His clients include businesses from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies; municipalities; insurance companies; high-net-worth individuals; and new and established entertainers and artists. He has also been retained several times by law firms as an expert witness in various issues of law and legal practice. In addition to his regular law practice, Mr. Michelen has exonerated six men in five separate murder cases and has successfully represented many others in civil claims arising out of wrongful conviction. His work in this area can be seen in the Netflix movie Fight for Justice: David & Me, that deals with his ten-year effort to exonerate David McCallum and Willie Stuckey and in the podcast Empire on Blood, detailing the case of Calvin Buari, exonerated by Mr. Michelen in March 2018. He is the co-host of the podcast Reboot Your Law Practice, currently in its second year on iTunes and stitcher, which focuses on developing a law practice as a solo or small firm practitioner. Since 2017, Mr. Michelen has served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Touro Law College in Central Islip, NY where he teaches New York Practice. From 2004 to 2011, he was an Adjunct Professor of Law at New York Law School.
Mr. Michelen was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He and his wife Christine have three sons and currently reside on Long Island.
