Vanessa was born and raised in Long Island, New York. She is a first generation American Latina who has always aspired to become an attorney. Her mother is from Colombia and her father is from El Salvador. She graduated cum laude from CUNY John Jay College of Criminal Justice with a Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities & Justice Studies and a minor in both English and Philosophy. She is currently a third-year law student at Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University. While in law school, she has interned with The Legal Aid Society – Immigration Unit, LatinoJustice PRLDEF, the Deportation Defense Clinic at Hofstra Law, and is currently an intern at the Rivera Julka Law Group, PC located in Bay Shore, NY. She is expected to commence her externship with the New Immigration Court in February 2019. Prior to law school, she spent a few years working as a paralegal in law firms. She is a proud Latina who loves working with her community and looks forward to becoming an immigration attorney.
